Columbus 7, Tri-State 4
Columbus 7, Tri-State 4 (TITLE)
Summary:
Columbus Little League won its second ever Kansas state title by sweeping a pair of 7-4 games from Tri-State Little League. Tyler Speer and Chad Poor combined on a four-hitter in the first game, and Columbus snapped a 2-2 tie with a five-run rally in the top of the sixth inning. Jason Zwahlen's two-run homer keyed the rally.
In the second game, Joe Sarwinski -- the manager's son -- struck out seven and allowed only two hits to earn the victory. Brian Rainey's three-run homer in the first gave Columbus the early edge, and a four-spot in the second put the game out of reach. Elkhart plated one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Columbus manager Jim Sarwinski was a player on the first Columbus state championship team in 1963.
