Summary:
Southwest Kansas rallied back from an opening game loss to become the first District 1 team since 1975 to win the Kansas state title. After Louisburg Little League's Billy Neff fired a two-hitter in the opener, Southwest Kansas responded with a pair of emphatic victories. In game two, Southwest Kansas took an early 4-2 lead, then sent 19 batters to the plate in a 13-run third inning outburst. Randy Dominguez led the onslaught with both a grand slam and a two-run double in the third inning. For the game, Cesar Rodriguez had a homer, triple, and double, and both Josh Shaddix and D.J. Gonzales slammed homers.
In the title series' deciding game, Southwest Kansas loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning. Neff recorded two outs without allowing a run, but Dominguez laced a double, and Chris Lahey followed with a home run to give Hugoton an early 5-0 edge. Gonzales took a shutout into the sixth inning before allowing three unearned runs in the sixth.
