What's New

(June 2021) -- A year after cancelling all tournament play due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Little League Baseball has announced plans for the 2021 international tournament. Following consultation with an advisory committee comprised of outside experts, Little League Baseball has decided to hold the 2021 Little League World Series and all of its qualifying tournaments for the Little League Baseball and Softball divisions (age 10-12 years). Other age divisions will end play at the state tournament level. For 2021 only, the Little League World Series will involve only U.S.-based leagues, with the top two finishers in each region advancing to the Little League World Series.

Little League Baseball has provided guidelines around attendance at the series and COVID protocols for tournament officials and volunteers -- details can be found on the official Little League Baseball website. Beyond this, local tournament officials will follow protocols established by local health authorities based on conditions in their specific area.

With this decision in place and U.S. tournament competition set to begin in the coming weeks, we have begun our coverage of the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Region tournament -- click for details. The Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament

New York City is the undisputed business capital of the world, and Washington, D.C. is the political center of the U.S.

Yet the ultimate goal of youth baseball teams along the East Coast each summer is to see the sights in a different capital -- South Williamsport, Pennsylvania: the youth baseball capital of the world. For Little League all-star teams located along the Eastern Seaboard, the final step in the journey to the Little League World Series is the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament.

The Mid-Atlantic Region tournament was first held in 2001, when Little League Baseball expanded the annual Little League World Series from eight to sixteen teams. As part of the expansion, the organization's twelve state Eastern Region tournament was split into two region tournaments: the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament, and the New England Region tournament.

Both tournaments are held at Little League's Eastern Region Headquarters complex in Bristol, Connecticut, and the champion of each tournament advances to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Leagues from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania compete in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Beginning in 2021, Little League Baseball will again expand the Little League World Series, adding two U.S. and two international qualifiers to create a twenty team field. As part of this expansion, a new Metro Region will be created. New Jersey and New York will move from the Mid-Atlantic Region to the Metro Region, where they will be joined by state champions from Connecticut and Rhode Island. Following this change, the Mid-Atlantic Region will be contested by champions from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The Metro, Mid-Atlantic, and New England Region tournaments will all be held at Little League's A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol.
