Wisconsin State Champions in the 1970s


Wisconsin leagues competed alongside champions from Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula in a sectional tournament throughout the 1970s, and Wisconsin leagues claimed six of the ten titles in this tournament.

The Appleton Kiwanis won a pair of state titles, and were runner-up to K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base from the Upper Peninsula in 1970, while Appleton McKinley gave the city another state title in 1976.

Stevens Point claimed its first two championships by taking top honors in 1975 and 1979.

(*) - In 1978, the Green Bay Lions finished as the runner-up to East Tonka (Minnetonka, Minnesota) in the Wisconsin/Minnesota Sectional tournament.

(*) - In 1977, Marinette finished as the runner-up to Hopkins (Minnesota) in the Wisconsin/Minnesota Sectional tournament.

(*) - In 1972, Wausau Northern finished as the runner-up to K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base (Marquette County, Michigan) in a sectional tournament involving district champions from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

(*) - In 1970, the Appleton Kiwanis finished as the runner-up to Manistique (Michigan) in a sectional tournament involving district champions from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
